Paula's Super Session!
Our talented Plum Paula Bowles was invited to be a part of the World Book Day celebrations at Great Ormond Street Hospital this year, where she led activities around her latest MARV book, MARV and the Ultimate Superpower written by Alex Falase-Koya, which is one of the £1/€1,50 World Book Day books available to kids everywhere! Paula dressed up for the occasion with her fantastic superhero cape and MARV T-shirt as she led activities with the children and their families that were all about the superb superhero MARV: she read an extract from MARV and the Ultimate Superpower, and did a draw-along of MARV’s cool robot sidekick Pixel. Paula and they children also drew some superheroes of their own! The children were also given a book token to exchange for a book of their very own in a pop-up shop set up at the hospital.
Paula had a great time at the event- she posted about it on Instagram saying ‘Still pinching myself that this happened. I was invited to Great Ormond Street Hospital for World Book Day, along with lots of other fabulous authors! We had a lovely little crowd of families who joined in the fun. It was a whirlwind of a day, and one I’ll remember forever. Massive thanks to @worldbookdaysocial and @greatormondst and @oxfordchildrens'.
Don’t forget you can still use your World Book Day token to pick up one of the fantastic £1/€1,50 World Book Day books for FREE until the end of March!
World Book Day at Great Ormond Street Hospital
The event, organised by Great Ormand Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity), invited World Book Day authors and illustrators including our Plum Paula, Tolá Okogwu, Jennifer Killick, Mark and Roxanne Hoyle (LadBaby), and the World Book Day ambassador MC Grammar to visit patients and families at the hospital, giving them a day of fun activities to promote the World Book Day message of reading for pleasure, and giving children and young people the opportunity to own their very own book.
The children’s audio brand Yoto also donated some of their Yoto Players to the cause, which are fantastic screen-free audio devices that encourage children’s love of stories and storytelling through audio platforms.
