Raquel Lagartos
Hello! I am an illustrator and comic artist from Spain. I have always been a bookworm and when I was a kid, my favourite authors were Michael Ende, Ana Maria Gripe and Louisa May Alcott.
I enjoy painting with watercolor and traditional media and I love working with fantasy stories, dark atmospheres and also slice of life themes. I have a degree in Mathematics and have attended the School of Art of Oviedo. For 3 years I combined work in comics and teaching in high school, and in 2018 I started my career as a full time illustrator.
My illustrations have been exhibited in different places such as the Sitges Film Festival or the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée. In 2019 and 2020 I was Finalist for the International Picture Book Award “Biblioteca Insular de Gran Canaria” and I was also nominated as “Better National Comic Artist” for the 2018 Comic Critics Awards of Spain. In 2018 I was selected to participate in the European International project Wom@rts, in an artist-in-residence program in Angouleme.
