Kate Muldowney
Kate is a tea-loving illustrator and designer for animation. Living in Pendle, Lancashire, she graduated from the University of Lancashire with a degree in animation and completed an MA in animation at Nottingham Trent University. In 2026 she was shortlisted for the Children's Book North Network Prize for emerging children's book illustrators.
Kate’s first job in animation was designing props on the fantastical feature film ‘The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland’ and she has recently been working as a designer on the bright and colourful children’s series ‘Maddie + Triggs’.
Kate’s passion for telling funny stories and creating cute and quirky characters led her into the world of animation and illustration. Being able to give life and movement to illustrations felt very magical. Growing up she loved watching Wallace and Gromit, writing stories and was always drawing something and covered in paint.
Kate gets a lot of her inspiration from nature, watching bugs in her garden, going on woodland walks with her dog, Merlin, and exploring the countryside. She loves creating whimsical stories with magical themes and bringing wonder to small everyday moments.
