Charlotte Cotterill

Hello! I am an illustrator and picture book maker currently living and working in Derbyshire, UK, with my boyfriend and our border terrier, Rufus. I grew up in Nottinghamshire where I liked to sprawl out on various floors of my family home drawing and listening to audiotapes... not much has changed.

I studied BA Illustration with Animation at Manchester School of Art, graduating in 2014, and then went on to graduate MA Children’s Book Illustration in 2016 from Cambridge School of Art. In 2016, I was highly commended in the prestigious Macmillan Prize for my original story ‘The Girl Who Talked Too Much’. My work is character based; I love developing personalities and bringing them to life on the page.

In my spare time I love getting outdoors and walking with my little dog and since 2020 have got massively into crocheting. So far, I have crocheted lots of toys, Christmas stockings, bed socks, cushions in the shape of mountains and I am now working on my first granny square blanket.
