Carol Law

Hello! I am a UK based illustrator, currently living in Cambridgeshire with my husband and diva dog Morris.  Previously coming from a teaching career in the classroom and heritage sector, I graduated from an MA in Children’s Book Illustration in 2023 and haven’t stopped drawing, creating stories and characters since.

It’s a joy to hear people describe my work as classic, but contemporary. I find myself drawn to the seemingly mundane moments of life, inspired by acts of kindness, quiet humour and stories that evoke a sense of emotion. I’m most natural drawing domestic scenes, inspired by true stories and direct observations.

I work traditionally in layers of pencil and gouache which are then digitally put together. My black and white work are worked in layers of pencil. As an extension to my illustrations, I make ceramic pieces, providing another surface to paint on and another medium to explore and play. I’m also a part time librarian where I also organise and run art activities for children and for adults. In my spare time I seek out hills and my two grown-up children. I was honoured to have been awarded 2nd place in the Macmillan Prize for Illustration in 2025, longlisted for the WIA in 2024 and shortlisted for the Batsford Prize for Illustration in 2023.
