Carol Herring

Hello! I am an illustrator living in sunny Canterbury, New Zealand. I share a workspace at home with my husband in our converted garage.

I love creating quirky anthropomorphic characters, busy scenes with fun details to find, and I also enjoy dabbling in a bit of animation and hand lettering. While my work is mostly digital, I also paint with gouache on paper for fun.

Richard Scarry’s books have been a huge inspiration - I still have the Busy Town books from when I was a child sitting on my desk.

Over the years, as well as illustrating children's books, I’ve also enjoyed teaching kids art classes, both digital and analogue.

When I’m not in the studio, some of my favourite things to do are hiking, biking, running, and gardening. My most favourite thing, though, is having family dinners with our 5 young adult children and their partners. Together with 2 dogs and 2 cats, there’s never a dull moment!
