I realised from a fairly young age that creating was the only thing that could hold my attention long enough, after discarding becoming a forensic pathologist (ugh to blood), and a teacher (how do they do it, utter saints) I set my sights on becoming an 'artist'!! Obvioualy I had no idea how to do this so after completing a degree in Illustration and an MA in Children's Book Illustration I find myself in the wonderful world of illustrating for children. I recently fell in love with screen-printing, the block colours are just divine and the process is so rewarding, but I also love a good old trusty pencil as I'm also a sucker for detail and texture.
I think there is something rather special about creating stories for children as you become a huge part of their life, what an unbelievable privilege!! You will often find me doodling dinosaurs (my 6yr old is actually a reincarnated triceratops, apparently) and concoting imaginary intricate worlds. If I'm not drawing you will find me in the kitchen cooking something big and hearty as refined and dainty I am not! Illustration is now part of my everyday, I can become fairly restless if i don't get my 'fix' as my husband, lucky man (!) will attest...
