Jon Bishop

Born in the midlands, now living at the foot of the highlands in Scotland, I have been drawing, making, playing ever since I can remember.

Since graduating in Illustration from the University of Dundee in 2005, I travelled around Asia and Australasia for several years, working as a community artist, until I eventually found my way back home to Scotland where I began making my own gift and greetings card ranges. All the while developing my children's picture book aesthetic through mountains of sketchbooks and the Picturehooks project.

I create my drawings using traditional materials, including watercolours, pencil and wax crayons. I also enjoy working digitally, though with an eye on keeping the tactile nature of the original hand drawn or painted work present. As well as illustrating my socks off, I am kept busy developing performance work, for The Letter J (a children's theatre company my friend and I set up in 2015) and producing gifts and greeting cards, under the cunning guise of The Grey Earl. I like my tea milky and biscuits crumbly.
